Our Greek School has a 40 year history and is amongst the most active school units within the Greek Community in London.
The classrooms and offices of the Greek School are housed in the beautiful old Vicarage adjacent to the Church which offers a pleasant and positive environment for its challenging educational programme. The School seeks to support its children by advancing in its programme not only the language but also the religion, history and culture of our common heritage. The children learn to speak, read and write in Greek but are also brought to an awareness of their place in a great tradition.
The Divine Liturgy forms an important part of our curriculum and the basis of the children’s catechism. The pupils of the Greek School take an active part in the worship and doxologies for the feasts of the Church such as Christmas, The Three Great Hierarchs, The Annunciation etc. As the Greek School helps preserve the cultural, linguistic and religious identity of the Community we strongly encourage parents that all their children of school age enrol.
The School’s running costs are met by St. Demetrios Church offset in part by the school fees. The appointment of teachers from the education missions of Greece and Cyprus has helped the School significantly. The School PTA is at the heart of fundraising activities such as the School Raffle, the School Bazaars and the Annual Dinner and Dance.
At Saint Demetrios Greek School parents are encouraged to become actively involved in school life. The best for the children in our school can only be achieved by staff and parents working together in partnership.
